How to Set Up a Family Budget Sheet

One of the leading causes of divorce results from financial issues. He doesn’t like how much money she spends on household expenses, and she resents his expenditures on toys like golf carts and mammoth TVs. Maybe she’s a shopaholic and buys more than the family can possibly ever use, or he could hold a tight rein on the purse strings and not provide the things his family needs. Lack of money seems to be the main problem, although there are certainly other reasons. Especially in these hard times, many couples have had to learn to live on less, and fights have ensued even in formerly-strong relationships.

What these couples need to learn to do is to set up a budget sheet so that they can see where there money is going and how to live on the income they do have. You can start by establishing a place where you can keep all of your paid bills and receipts organized. You could use a photo storage box to hold all of these bills. If you keep everything organized, then it will be much easier to file taxes at the end of the year. You may want to consider having three boxes of bills since the IRS recommends that you keep all paperwork for at least three years.

Your computer can be another great budgeting tool. You could start your spreadsheeet program and setup columns with headings such as housing, credit cards, car expenses, entertainment, etc. The left side of the spreadsheet should consist of the months of the year. Using this spreadsheet is one of the easiest ways to track your expenses. At the end of every month you’ll be able to total the expenses under each tab in your file box and place the totals under the appropriate heading. At the beginning of the new year, all you need to do is total the various columns. It will be much easier to file taxes if you have everything calculated already.
