How to Set Up a Family Budget

One of the leading causes of divorce results from financial issues. Especially in these hard times, many couples have had to learn to live on less, and fights have ensued even in formerly-strong relationships.

It’s best for couples in this situation to set up a budget so they can learn how to use their money properly. There should be a place setup to hold all of the paid bills and receipts. A photo storage box is excellent for this purpose. Keeping everything organized will help out a lot. It will especially be useful when it comes time to file taxes. Since the IRS recommends keeping all paperwork for a minimum of three years in case of any audit, you might want to start three boxes, one to house the papers for each of the years.

In these modern days, you should definitely turn to your computer for help. You could start your spreadsheeet program and setup columns with headings such as housing, credit cards, car expenses, entertainment, etc. The months of the year should be on the left side of the spreadsheet. This spreadsheet will allow you to track your expenses throughout the year easily. Calculating all of the expenses at the end of the month would be much easier. You have to add up all the different columns at the end of the year. You can file your taxes more easily since you’ll already have everything totaled up.
