Yamaha has stated that their recent Yamaha DGX 640 digital piano is their " most piano-like portable grand piano ever". Coming from the world's largest broad range manufacturer of musical instruments, that's a very large claim indeed. So what is so special about the DGX-640 and how can this claim be substantiated?

For a kickoff, to be truly "piano-like" a digital piano must deliver the feel of an acoustic piano.

To give rise to this, the Yamaha DGX-640 has onboard, GHS (Graded Hammer Standard) weighted keyboard technology. The effect of this engineering is that the lower keys have a heavier action than the higher key, therefore simulating an acoustic piano. With this simulation, the majority of people playing the digital piano would not be able to detect a difference.

The next big test is quality of sound because a piano-like digital grand piano would sound just like an acoustic model.
