The first thing to remember when you give learn piano advice to learners is the fact that the learning of the notes are vital. This means that you should be able to put to memory the names. The second thing is to know where on the stave they are placed especially on the ledger lines.
The five ledger lines is what makes up the stave and each has either a bass clef or a treble clef. You will also need to draw these clefs as well as place the notes on the ledger lines. You need to get to know each of the different notes as well. These notes are divided into whole, half, quarter and eighth notes to start with.
Each note has a beat allocated to it and you need to know how many beats are in each. The whole note, for example, has four beats, the half note has two beats and so forth. Added up, these values in a bar, will give you the time or tempo. You write the time signature and the key signature next to the clef.
You have to make sure you know what the tempo signature is as well as the key signature. This is essential in the theory that you must commit to memory otherwise you would not be able to play any piece of music.
You cannot play sheet music on any instrument if you do not learn the chords. These are there for you to memorize where the notes are on the keyboard as well. This will guide you to being able to play fast tempo pieces at a later stage too.
