Preview Pdf File Attachments In Outlook 2007 Using A Free Viewer

Microsoft Outlook 2007 makes it easy to preview attachments without starting an external viewer. The only problem is, you can’t preview PDF files with it. Fortunately, you can fix this problem quickly. The solution is simple. You merely configure Outlook 2007 to work with the PDF previewer program that comes standard with the free Adobe Reader program.

Adobe Reader (a.k.a. Acrobat Reader) is free software from Adobe for viewing PDF files. As its name implies, it is only for viewing (reading) these files, not for creating them. If you receive PDF files as email attachments, you are probably used to saving them, then opening them in Adobe Reader so you can view them.

If you decide to configure Outlook to view PDF files, you will be taking advantage of the same Acrobat Reader technology, but with this approach you won’t have to exit Outlook 2007 to do the preview. Previewing PDF attachments without ever leaving Outlook saves you a little time and effort each time around.

Configuring Outlook 2007 to use this previewer takes only minutes. Simply download and install the latest version of Acrobat Reader, then tell Outlook to use it. In most cases, it will only take you a few minutes to complete the entire process. Even if you don’t normally make changes to the software running on your computer, if you can follow simple directions, you can set this up yourself. The benefits of a PDF previewing program make this small amount of effort well worth it.
